HALASYA MAHATHMIYAM: Sri Duraiswamy Iyer
of Valluvakkudi near Sirkazhi was the student of Sri Raju Sastrigal,Mannargudy and studied Vedas etc., with Sri Subramania
Sastrigal. Duraiswamy was a Bramachari and in his later age took Sanyasam from Pazhamaaner Swamigal. Subramania
Sastrigal and Duraiswamy were both very close friends and they wanted to become relatives by promising to give in marriage
a girl or boy from both sides. They promised to do so..Duraiswamy had brothers namely Ramaseshappaiyar, Panchanatham
Iyer, a Suptd Engr Highways, Cuddalore. Panchanatham Iyer had no issue. But Ramaseshappaiyar had been blessed
with three sons.
When Duraiswamy(Sivan) was conducting Upanyasam in Sri Meenakshi
Temple in Madurai, telegram came from Sirkazhi that a male was born to his brother. Immediately Duraiswamy(Sivan) sent a telegram
to his brother asking him to name the child HALASYAM and will be given in adoption to Panchanatha Iyer. They did
accordingly.
Later Doraiswamy (Sivan) promised Subramania Sastrigal, telling
him YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE A BOY FROM MY SIDE FOR YOUR DAUGHTER ! That was true..Subramania Sastrigal, in the later
years came to Sirkazhi and Kozhikuthy and celebrated the marriage to his beloved daughter SARASWATHI with HALASYAM as promised
by HIM to Sivan(Duraisamy). It was destined to happen and it happened. What a magnanimous act shown by Sri
Subramania Sastrigal !
This is indeed what one can term as being called "Deiva Sankalpam"
