Sri Subramania Sastrigal, in the year 1932, stayed in His daughter
Janaki's house. During the same period, HH Maha Periavaa was also said to be camping in Thanjavur near Sri Bangaru
Kamakshi Temple. It is said that Maha Periavaa used to visit Sri Subramania Sastrigal daily in the morning at around
8 a.m. since the Sastrigal was suffering from illness. Maha Periavaa on seeing the Sastrigal suffering, immediately
ordered Dr. Sambhu, Mutt Doctor to give treatment to the Sastrigal. One such day, Sri Subramania Sastrigal was
lying on his bed, when Maha Periavaa came to visit Sastrigal. HH was with the Sastrigal for more than an hour. They
were discussing about various matters. Then Sastrigal prayed to Maha Periavaa to give Him "APATHSANYASA YOGA' since
the Sastrigal felt that He may not continue to live in the World with bodily diseases, giving harm to His children.
Immediately on hearing this, HH Maha Periavaa is said to have EMBRACED Sastrigal and uttered these words" I HAVE
GIVEN APATHSANYASA YOGA TO YOU...Please go to Siddhamalli and start chanting mantraprayogams telling "YOU KNOW SASTRAS ON
SANYASA YOGAS. YOU KNOW THE EXACT DATE/TIME TO ATTAIN JEEVAN MUKTI' and gave His fullest Blessings on that date
Sri Subramania Sastrigal on hearing this, shead tears from His eyes
and immediately asked His son K S Viswam Iyer, His sister's son T.K.Srinivasan and His son-in-law Athmanatha Iyer to
take him to his village Siddhamalli. As soon as He reached Siddhamalli, Sastrigal, sitting on the varandah in
His house, started chanting Slokas on "APATHSANYASA UPADESA PANCHAKA" etc. People on hearing this, gathered in hundreds
and had darshan of Sastrigal. After 45 days, the Sastrigal on knowing that His end was nearing, called His
brother,S. Vembu Iyer, and asked to arrange for Sanyasa Yoga. As instructed, Vembu Iyer, Nagabhushanam Iyer, K
S Viswam Iyer and others arranged everything. Being a GREAT MAHAAN, HE KNEW THE EXACT DATE AND TIME OF HIS DEPARTURE
TO ATTAIN MUKTI !! All the relatives/friends, including Vedic Pandits, assembled there and were chanting Sri Rudram
Chamakam etc from Upanishads. Sri Subramania Sastrigal told the gathering that on thursday, Nov.9th, the year 1933,
He would be leaving this World and that no one should weep. He asked to light Kuthuvilakku, Maavilai,
Kolam etc in all the houses. All must wear new clothes on that day. Most important of all, everybody should be
happy. Thousands of people from all parts of Tamil Nadu came to have Darshan of the Mahaan Sri Subramania Sastrigal
on the day He attained JEEVAN MUKTI.
